The Vodacom Durban July: A Right Royal Excuse...to wear a Good Suit

Nothing I love more than a man in a suit. And a man in a good suit is hard to come by these days. But the Vodacom Durban July gives men around the country the perfect excuse to splurge on something special. Cut and Style are the most important things to bear in mind when shopping for the perfect suit.
The cut of the suit needs to be well fitted, slim suits are in. Avoid boxy or unstructured suits. The suit should be slim-fitting with masculine appeal. The fit of a suit can make or break it, broad shoulders, a slim waist and slim trousers are all key to the perfect fit and silhouette.

From Top Left: Bradley Cooper, Johnny Depp, Pep Guardiola, John Hamm, Gerard Butler, Joshua Jackson, Ryan Gosling and David Beckham.

There are countless styles of suits to choose from, however for this occasion I would stick to one of three styles; single breasted (John Hamm) , double breasted (Ryan Gosling) and the three piece suit (Gerard Butler, David Beckham).
The Shawl Lapel is currently one of the most predominant suit trends (Tom Ford, Bradley Cooper), flattering on almost all body shapes as it creates a continuous fluid line. Debating over buttons? One button is very much on trend, however as a general rule a single button suit has a shortening effect on a man. A two button suit, visually adds height and slims the waist.

His Royal Highness - Tom Ford

"Like every good man, I strive for perfection, and, like every ordinary man, I have found that perfection is out of reach - but not the perfect suit."  - Edward Tivnan
